The company’s history is inseparable from its founder, Stig Remøy. He first went to sea at age fifteen. By nineteen, he had purchased his first vessel; by twenty-one, he was sailing as skipper while studying to become a marine master.
His entrepreneurial instincts soon pulled him beyond traditional fisheries and into offshore operations. His first offshore ships — together with a trawler — laid the foundation for Olympic Shipping, which Remøy established with Bjørn Inge Kvalsund in 1996.
Throughout his career, Remøy has been an uncompromising advocate for safety, sustainability, and operational excellence.
From the outset, Olympic embraced the future. The company became an early mover in the subsea industry, investing more than 12 billion NOK in modern, flexible, and cost-efficient vessels — all built in shipyards tied to the maritime cluster surrounding Olympic’s home base in Fosnavåg.
